The main difference is size, not caliber.
The G17 Gen6 is 0.67 inches longer and 0.43 inches taller than the G19 Gen6, so the distinction is concentrated in overall length and grip height.
Width is the one place the expected pattern breaks. Through Gen5, Glock listed both pistols at 34 mm. The Gen6 pages do not: the G19 is listed at 34.4 mm and the G17 at 34 mm, making the compact model fractionally the wider of the pair. The gap is 0.4 mm — small enough that it is a listing detail rather than something a hand would find, but it is what the manufacturer publishes, and it reverses a line that older comparisons still repeat.
The G17 also has a 4.49-inch barrel compared with the G19's 4.02-inch barrel. Weight is a weaker separator: Glock lists a 30-gram difference without a magazine, up from the 20 grams that separated the Gen5 pair.
Capacity: 17 rounds versus 15.
Glock lists a 17-round standard magazine for the G17 Gen6 and a 15-round standard magazine for the G19 Gen6. It lists no optional capacities for either. That is a change from the Gen5 pages, which did publish optional figures — so an optional capacity quoted from an older comparison no longer has a manufacturer source behind it.
Which one is smaller?
The G19 is smaller in overall length, height, barrel length, and weight without a magazine, but not in listed width. The two cited models share their chambering and listed trigger-pull figure.

What the data supports—and what it cannot.
The specification sheet can identify the smaller model and the standard-capacity difference. It cannot determine personal fit, training needs, legal requirements, or a universally “better” choice. Those conclusions require context beyond a dimensional comparison.

Gen6 removes a distinction this comparison used to need.
